About Lang Craigs
Lang Craigs is situated to the north of Dumbarton – offering spectacular views over the town, the River Clyde and Loch Lomond. As you look around the site it is hard to believe that you are only 12 miles from the centre of Glasgow.
The Woodland Trust Scotland has a unique opportunity to purchase this vast 240ha site. Unfortunately years of neglect have degraded the natural environment – but the site has fantastic opportunities for woodland creation.
Scotland is on e of Europe’s least wooded countries – with only 2% of native woodland cover in the lowland areas – the Trust plans to plant 200,000 trees on the site creating a thriving home for wildlife.
In just 12-15 years this area will start to look and feel like a young wood complete with a range of wildlife and woodland plants.
The Trust also wants to work with the schools and local community and get them involved in tree planting. In addition we will encourage local schools to use the site as an outdoor classroom – offering opportunities offering children the opportunity to lean about wildlife and deepen their appreciation for nature.
The Trust believe this project will create a thriving home for Scotland’s best loved wildlife and create a lasting legacy for our children and children’s children.
